Colostrum
Calves are typically fed colostrum for the first few days of its life. It is important that colostrum is given to the calf as soon as possible after birth. If the calf is unable to get it from its mother, previously frozen and thawed colostrum can be given instead. If the calf is unable to get colostrum from its mother, its important that colostrum is available for the calf don’t get it from the mother, make sure you have some in freezer to thaw and give to the calf as soon as possible. Colostrum helps fight disease, and the immunoglobulins in the colostrum help prevent the calf from getting sick. Our stores sell Grober powdered colostrum, large quantities available at request.

Milk replacer
Calves are fed milk replacer for the first 8-12 weeks. depending on the farm and the farmer. Our stores carry a Grober brand milk replacer that is specific to veal calves.

Calf starter
Calves can be started on calf starter around one month of age-weaning (6-8 months old). Veal calves are given less protein than a dairy calf, usually 16-18%.

• Calf Starter Plain has all the benefits a healthy calf needs. If it is growing fine, it doesn’t need the extra help with the rumensin.
• Rumensin helps prevents coccidiosis (parasitic disease) and helps the calf grow faster.
• Decox prevents scours

Our stores also have a calf starter pellet. It is 20% Calf starter Grower Medicated with rumensin. The stores also carry a rapid gain calf starter 22% which has more protein in the ration. Our mills also make a special blend for Shur Gain — Rumimax — a unique blend of calf starter and straw, to be fed free choice. Feeding hay is unnecessary as the straw makes up the fibre.
